Preparing for eCampus Vista

This document will guide your through preparing for eCampus Vista.

  • The preferred version of Sun Java is the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 14.  If you are running a different version of Sun Java, your new computer came pre-installed with Windows Vista, or you are unsure which version of Java you have, then you will need to use this guide before you can use eCampus Vista.
  • If you are using the newest version of Internet Explorer you will need to use this guide to prepare your new browser for use with eCampus Vista.

How to use this guide:

  1. First identify your operating system.
    1. If you are using Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP start on Page 2.
    2. If you are using Microsoft Windows Vista start on Page 3.
    3. If you are using a different operating system please browse to http://www.webct.com/tuneup/ for more information.
  2. To install the correct version of Sun Java go to Page 5.
  3. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 continue to Page 9.
    1. Earlier version of Internet Explorer may look different.
    2. If you have difficulty using Internet Explorer please check our list of supported browsers at http://www.webct.com/tuneup/.
    3. For instructions on preparing a different browser please browse to http://www.webct.com/tuneup/ to run a browser tune up.

Windows 2000 & XP – Preparing Your Computer for Install

  1. To uninstall your current version of Java go to the Windows Control Panel
    1. Start > Settings > Control Panel

  2. Go to Add/Remove Programs in Windows XP

  1.  Remove any Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 or J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0

  2. Please continue to Installing Preferred Version of Sun Java on Page 5.

Windows Vista – Preparing Your Computer for Install

1.      Go to the Windows Control Panel on the Start Menu

2.      Find Programs and click on Uninstall a program

3.      Remove any Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 or J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0.

4.      Please continue to Installing Preferred Version of Sun Java on Page 5.


Installing Preferred Version of Sun Java

 

1.     Get the latest correct version of Java from http://ecampus.nhmccd.edu/57457/.

2.      Hit Run to launch the installer.

3.      Allow the Java Installer to run (May only appear on Windows Vista).

4.      Hit Accept

5.      Hit Finish

6.      Reboot your computer.

7.      Go back to your control panel and click on the Java Icon.

a.       Windows Vista: Start>Control Panel

b.      Windows XP: Start>Settings>Control Panel

 
8.      Click on the Update tab and uncheck the checkbox next to Check for Updates Automatically.

9.      Hit Apply only if it is not grey and then click on OK.

10.  If you are running IE7 please read Preparing IE 7 for eCampus Vista on Page 9.

11.  If you are running a different browser please go to http://www.webct.com/tuneup/ for specific instructions on how to prepare your browser for eCampus Vista.


Preparing IE 7 for eCampus Vista

 

1.      Launch Internet Explorer.
*Note: The screenshots bellow are of Internet Explore 7.

2.      Go to Tools and Internet Options.

3.      Select the Security Tab and Trusted Sites.

4.      lick on the Sites Button and type in http://nhmccdvista4.blackboard.com to your trusted sites list and hit the add button.  Make sure to uncheck the option that requires server verification (https:) for call sites in this zone.  Once completed hit close.

5.      Remove all pop-up blockers by clicking on the privacy tab and uncheck the box that says “Turn on Pop-up Blocker”.

6.      Hit OK and return to Internet Explorer.

7.      Navigate your browser to http://ecampus.nhmccd.edu/ and click on Go to Class.

8.      Click on the eCampus Vista login button

9.      You will be prompted to open a new window.  Please press OK

10.   Please login using your eCampus login information.

11.   Click on Check Browser at the top right corner of  your eCampus Vista screen.

12.   Make sure all items have a green checkmark next to them.

            a. If any items have a red X next to them please read the information next to the X about how to correct the problem.
            b. If you are still having problems be sure to run a browser tune up at http://www.webct.com/tuneup/.
